Install the desktop app
Each person installs Remote on their work computer once, then enters a connection code. It runs quietly in the menu bar or system tray, and always shows what it records.
Where the connection code comes from
- 1. The company invites the person by email. They click the link and set their own password.
- 2. They sign in and get a one-time connection code on their own dashboard, next to their timesheet.
- 3. They install the app, and when it asks to connect this computer, type the code in. It works once.
A manager can also issue a code from the Devices page. Either way, every connected computer belongs to someone the company invited.
Opening it the first time
On a Mac: if you see "Apple could not verify Remote", open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, scroll to Security and click Open Anyway next to Remote. Then allow Accessibility and Screen Recording when it asks.
On Windows: if Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway.
These prompts appear because the app is not code-signed yet. It is safe to install.

What Remote does
Clock in, breaks and status
Staff clock in and out, take tea and lunch, and set a status when they step away, all from the menu bar. Reminders nudge them at the times you set.
Timesheets that build themselves
Worked hours, breaks, overtime and late starts are worked out from the clock, per person and per schedule. Each person can export their own.
Activity and websites
See which apps and sites made up the day, grouped as productive, neutral or unproductive by rules you set. Page content and keystrokes are never captured.
Screenshots you can switch on
Optional screenshots at random intervals during clocked-in time, off by default and never during breaks or on private apps like banking.
Schedules for the whole team
Set each person their usual week and change any single day. The app follows their own hours for reminders and the timesheet.
Roles and privacy controls
Give each role only what it should see, down to whether it sees the whole team or a person their own data. Every view of an individual is logged.

Frequently asked questions
Do employees know Remote is running?
Yes, always. The app shows a visible icon and a notice listing exactly what is recorded. Hidden monitoring is a risk under POPIA and gets blocked by antivirus, so Remote is deliberately open about it.
Does it read what people type or their private messages?
No. It counts how much typing and mouse activity happens, never which keys. Apps and sites you mark private, such as banking, are recorded as "Private" with no detail and no screenshot.
Are screenshots always on?
No. Screenshots are off by default. When you switch them on they happen at random intervals during clocked-in time only, never on a break or a private app, and you can blur them.
Where is our data kept?
On Microsoft Azure in South Africa, so employee data stays in the country for POPIA. Old records are deleted automatically after the retention window you set.
Can a normal employee just see their own hours?
Yes. Roles can be scoped to a person their own data, so an employee sees and exports only their own timesheet while a manager sees the team.
What computers does it run on?
Mac and Windows. One installer serves everyone; the connection code decides which company a computer belongs to.
